Just out of Fort William is Neptune's Staircase. A series of 9 locks for boats connecting the Caledonian Canal to Loch Linnhe. It opened in 1847.

image taken from White Heather Travel, because I couldn't get a birds eye view.

Unfortunately, there were no boats around to see it in action, but getting through the 9 locks, takes quite a few hours!

At the bottom is the swing bridge to get to Loch Linnhe.

Fort William is the largest town in the West Highlands. Originally occupied by the Cameron Clan! The kids did a lot of paddling here after a few busy days of sightseeing!
