Bryggen

When we arrived in Bergen, we had to drive past Bryggen to get to our hotel.  There were people everywhere, it looked extremely overcrowded with cafes, and restaurants.  The front of the buildings look fantastic in a row.

We decided to go for a walk after our fish and chips and see what Bryggen was like.
Everyone had either gone back to their hotels or cruise ships and the place was like a ghost town. We had the whole place to ourselves and it was fascinating.

The buildings were wharfside warehouses and administation buildings and dated back to the 1360's.  This area has been revaged by fires often as well, and has been rebuilt over the years.
The current buildings date back to early 1700's.

It was great to have the whole area to ourselves, and the kids were amazed at how the buildings were actually still upright.
